Reunion Overflight Permit Regulation and Procedures

If you're an operator of a business jet or a commercial airline with plans to flyover Reunion airspace, obtaining a Reunion Overflight Permit from the Reunion Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is mandatory. As a flight dispatcher, it's important to have a good understanding of the requirements for obtaining this permit, including the fact that the issuing of an overflight permit confirms that there is no political or security objection to your airline, aircraft, or country of origin/destination and that there are no outstanding navigation fees due to the ATC authority.

  1. What are CAA's working hours, including whether they are open on weekends?
  2. Which aircraft documents must be submitted with the overflight request?
  3. Are there any fees charged by the CAA for processing the permit?
  4. What is the official validity period of the overflight permit, as determined by the CAA?
  5. How can the Reunion air navigation bill be obtained, either through IATA or a local agent?
The process for obtaining a reunion overflight permit can vary depending on the type of aircraft, the purpose of the flight, and other factors. Generally, the operator or owner of the aircraft will need to submit an application to the French Civil Aviation Authority or its designated representative, providing details about the flight, the aircraft, the crew, and other relevant information. The application may also require payment of a fee. It is important to note that the process for obtaining a reunion overflight permit can take time, so it is recommended that the application be submitted well in advance of the planned flight. Additionally, the French Civil Aviation Authority may impose certain restrictions or conditions on the permit, such as specific routing or altitude requirements.

We suggest reaching out to the Civil Aviation Authority of Reunion or a third-party aviation service provider to obtain more specific and up-to-date information about the overflight permit process in Reunion.

Réunion Island, a French department in the Indian Ocean, is known for its volcanic, rainforested interior, coral reefs and beaches. Its most iconic landmark is Piton de la Fournaise, a climbable active volcano standing 2,632m (8,635 ft.). Piton des Neiges, a massive extinct volcano, and Réunion’s 3 calderas (natural amphitheaters formed by collapsed volcanoes), are also climbing destinations.

  • In the Forest of Belouve
This is one of the most magnificent slots canyon in the world, adorned with countless waterfalls including the Bras de Caverne stream, with 725m tall falls. If you love to trek, I bet you’d have some great time here.
  • Peak of the Furnace
Le Piton de La Fournaise is more or less Reunion Island’s pilgrim site as tons of people visit the Island regularly to explore this thrilling attraction of the Indian Ocean. Le Piton de La Fournaise is one of the most active volcanos of the planet and can be visited by helicopter or microlight planes, but the best way to discover it is the hard way, trekking!
  • In the Cirque de Salazie
If you intend to go for a waterfall tour and explore incredibly high waterfalls, I’ve just got you a perfect place. Voile de la Mariee is a group of very high waterfalls that take the appearance of the veils of a bride! Several chutes form this waterfall which end up in a natural pool surrounded by sumptuous flora. I will leave the pictures to tell the story.
  • Cilaos
Cilaos is a caldera with mind-blowingly dramatic scenery. It’s iconic peak, Piton des Neiges, which towers over the town at about 3070 meters high, is hikers’ paradise. Cilaos is equally famous for its impressive canyons and waterfalls that host extreme sports activities like canyoning (canyoneering) and rock climbing. Don’t hesitate to have some of Cilaos popular products such as lentils or its old-style sugarcane rum when you are in town.

This fairly big market opens on Fridays and Saturdays. Considered as the most beautiful and touristic market on the Island, Saint-Paul market parades stalls selling fresh produce as well as those selling handicraft and other beautiful items. This open market is located on the waterfront of the city and sells material mostly authentic to the culture and heritage of Reunion island, with street food encompassing local eats and French culinary flair.
